The U.S. economy added 172,000 nonfarm jobs in May 2026, while the US unemployment rate remained at 4.3%. The number of unemployed decreased by 66,000 to 7.31 million. Job gains occurred in leisure and hospitality, local government, and health care. March and April payroll figures were revised up by a combined 93,000 jobs.
