France Accounts for 70% of Global Crypto "Wrench Attacks"
According to analyst Joe Nakamoto, approximately 70% of global crypto-related "wrench attacks"—physical extortion of digital assets—are occurring in France. The country has recorded 41 kidnappings so far in 2026, averaging one every 2.5 days. Nakamoto attributes this surge to risks stemming from centralized KYC data breaches.
French national prosecutor for organized crime, Vanessa Perrée, confirmed that 88 individuals have been charged in connection with these cases, highlighting a severe escalation in organized violence targeting crypto holders.
