The EIA expects U.S. electricity demand to reach new record highs in 2026 and 2027, driven by AI data centers, crypto operations, and electrification.
Commercial electricity use is projected to exceed residential demand for the first time.
Renewables will continue gaining market share, while coal's share is expected to decline.
