SCIENTIST DISCOVERS POTENTIAL FAST LANE TO MARS
A researcher studying asteroid trajectories has identified a possible shortcut that could dramatically shorten trips to Mars. Using orbital geometry from early asteroid data, the study suggests a theoretical round trip in as little as 153 days during a 2031 alignment—far below current multi-year mission timelines.
However, the concept remains unproven: the required speeds exceed today’s capabilities, and safe landing at those velocities is not yet feasible. Still, the findings could help guide future mission design and trajectory planning for next-generation spacecraft.
