In a Bitcoin Asia fireside chat published by Bitcoin Magazine on Aug. 28, 2026, Binance founder CZ said that if Bitcoin gradually becomes a strategic reserve asset for countries, its ultimate importance will likely surpass gold's.
The real resistance today is not the asset itself, he argued, but the mature valuation, custody and reserve systems countries have already built around gold, and for large economies completing such a switch typically takes many years. Bitcoin nonetheless holds the stronger long-term advantage over gold, CZ said, with a single low-probability exception: a stronger digital asset emerging to replace it before Bitcoin closes the gap, which he sees as unlikely for now.
