FED MINUTES SIGNAL HIGHER-FOR-LONGER RATE STANCE Federal Reserve minutes from the April meeting showed many policymakers wanted to remove the easing bias from the policy statement, with most signaling further tightening could be needed if inflation stays above 2%. Officials said elevated inflation, Middle East uncertainty, energy prices, and tariffs may require rates to remain higher for longer. Several policymakers, however, said rate cuts later this year could be appropriate if geopolitical tensions ease and inflation cools. Nearly all participants supported keeping rates unchanged at the meeting, while Fed staff projected a slightly stronger economic outlook than in March.
