U.S. POWER COSTS SURGE TO MULTI-YEAR HIGHS Natural gas power costs hit $90 per megawatt-hour in 2026—the highest level in at least 17 years—as data-center demand accelerates. Solar and onshore wind costs also jumped more than 10%, reaching their highest levels since at least 2014. Rising generation costs are driving up utility bills and becoming a key political issue ahead of November’s midterm elections.
