Bitcoin’s Post-Quantum Roadmap Takes Shape Around P2MR and SHRINCS
Protocol Watch founder Christine D. Kim said Bitcoin’s post-quantum roadmap is beginning to take clearer shape around two complementary proposals. BIP-360, currently in Draft status, would introduce Pay-to-Merkle-Root (P2MR), reducing long-term public-key exposure and creating an upgrade path for future quantum-resistant signatures. Blockstream Research’s SHRINCS is a SHA-256-based hash signature scheme designed to work with such an upgrade path, allowing users to migrate funds before a cryptographically relevant quantum computer emerges; however, its formal security proof and independent review are still incomplete.
